Helenne Ulster (Radio Today's Jazz Eeze Host) visited the Radio Station
94.7 "THE WAVE" SMOOTH JAZZ (a 24 hour smooth Jazz station) during her
recent visit to Los Angeles. Helenne says that she listened to the
station quite often and found the presenting style so similar to her own
- "It was scary!.The music was almost identical except for the local
content of course". She arranged a visit and with her in this pic is Jim
Blakeley, who incidentally worked at 702 Talk Radio for a year when he
came to South Africa.

Pinna on Whispers. The film "Invictus" with Morgan Freeman as Nelson
Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar tells the story of how Nelson
Mandela teamed up with the captain of South Africa’s rugby team to help
unite the country and lead them to victory in the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
The film takes its name from William Ernest Henley’s legendary poem,
which inspired Nelson Mandela during his captivity on Robben Island.
Morgan Freeman has been nominated for an Oscar in the category Actor in
a Leading Role and Matt Damon in the category Actor in a Supporting Role.

Radio Today broadcast live from Unisa's ZK Matthews Hall the finals of
the 5th Vodacom/Unisa International String Competition on Thursday 4 and
Friday 5 February 2010. The live broadcasts were also streamed
world-wide on the internet accessed via Radio Today's website
(www.1485.org.za).
The two top winners of the 5th Unisa International String Competition
were Korean violinist Yura Lee and cellist Georgi Anichenko from
Belarus. They were accompanied by the Johannesburg Philharmonic
Orchestra and acclaimed Pretoria born conductor, Conrad van Alphen.
The competition is the only one of its kind in Africa, recognised by the
World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva, making
it a highly prestigious event on the South African music calendar.

Controller) and in-studio guest, Elma Postma. Elma Postma is a South
African actress best known for her role as Dezi Terreblanche (nee van
Jaarsveld) in the SABC2 soapie 7de Laan, from 2001-2007.In June 2007 she
announced she was leaving the show to "redefine" herself, having
outgrown the role. Postma is also a regular MC and guest speaker at
functions. Elma hosts the kykNET reality television series Boer Soek 'n
Vrou, based on the international format Farmer Wants a Wife, since
September, 2008. She is currently starring as Dr. Sara van Graan in the
SABC2 drama series The Mating Game until June 2010

Duncan MacFadyen is a great naturalist and nature lover. He has a
national diploma, B-Tech and Masters Degree in nature conservation, an
MSc in entomology and zoology and is presently busy with a PhD on small
mammals in the Bankenveld. Being passionate about insects and their
conservation, he has researched Jewel Beetles, Buprestidae, and
Long-horned Beetles, Cerambycidae, in Namaqualand, the Waterberg and
Telperion ñ and has two species of jewel beetles named after him in
recognition of his contribution to research in this field. Duncan has
worked in scientific services in the Kruger National Park, Mapungubwe
National Park and Singita, and was curator of mammalogy at the Transvaal
Museum of Natural History. Presently manager of research and
conservation for E Oppenheimer & Son, he is also on the De Beers
Biodiversity and Environmental peer group committees.

From the 15th to the 19th of March, Wits University's Faculty of Health Sciences presented Ethics Alive focusing on unresolved hospital strikes,
the concept healthcare worker and importantly patient rights.
To coincide with the launch of Ethics Alive, Radio Today broadcast special editions of In Town Tonight on Monday 15th and 22nd of March 2010. Guests participating in this exclusive broadcasts were Professor
Helen Laburn, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School and Professors Phillip Tobias, Joe Variava and Trefor Jenkins, the three doctors who in 1977 laid the complaint with the South African Medical Council against certain doctors
regarding their unethical professional conduct and treatment of their patient, Steve Biko.
