Originally
from the Eastern Cape, Tony Yoko can be described as a multi-faceted person
with a diverse range of interests. Tony has a combination of background experiences drawn from Marketing, Promotions and Events with a special interest in The Environment and The Performing Arts. He is currently involved in a number of artistic productions linked to fund-raising for good causes as well as promoting and showcasing local musicians. Since 2001 Tony has produced and presented the well known and on-going Sappi Sunday Picnic Concerts at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden and a variety of other performing arts events. He is also a founding member of the ‘On the Go Music Fund’ a charitable fund established in 2004 to assist underprivileged young up-coming music students to acquire musical instruments. Although an extremely busy person, Tony still finds time to play his drums and lead his new ten piece jazz band, ‘Retro-Swing’ But his best kept secret is his passion for jazz ! With an extensive private collection of jazz recordings accumulated over the years combined with many visits to international jazz festivals in America and Europe, Tony is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to jazz music. And it is this interest in the American art form known as jazz that brought Tony to 1485 Radio Today to host his weekly programme ‘A World of Jazz’ |
