Lance
James is a versatile, bilingual performer who specialises in Corporate
functions, Concerts, Dances, Barndances, Weddings, Shopping Centre promotions,
and In-store promotions. He is considered as one of the top entertainers
ever in South Africa, and has an excellent rapport with his audiences.
Winner of six SABC Sarie Awards, a "Loony's Award" for his contribution
to entertainment, plus an Honorary Award from ATKV Centurion, Beeld and
Pretoria Afrikaanse Sakekamer for his contribution to Afrikaans music.
Lance has appeared in many top Television Shows, is a well established
Master of Ceremonies, as well
as
a well known Radio Broadcaster, currently broadcasting on Radio Today,
"Keep It Country", Professionally Lance James started singing
at the age of 16, and playing in bands from the age of 18. (Music ranging
from Swing to Rock 'n Roll, Afrikaans and Country) He toured with the
U.K. established vocal group, "Group One" throughout the U.K.,
Ireland, Spain, Germany, doing concerts and TV appearances in the early
60"s. In 1997, Lance appeared on a show in Galveston, Texas, U.S.A.
He has appeared at various Casinos including Carousel, Caesars, Champions,
Sun City, Carnival City, Graceland, Emerald, Thaba Nchu Sun, The Ridge,
The Tusk, and Marula Sun, AND Sun City Superbowl.
Lance started recording in 1962, and to date over 60 Lance James Albums
have been released.
Lance recorded and toured with Min Shaw, during the 70's and hits included
"Dankie", "Ahoy Madagaskar", "Vicki",
"Bloedrooi die Rose", "Aandlied van die Voëls"
to name just a few. In 1997 and 1998 readers of "Keur" Magazine
voted Lance as one of the Top10 Most Popular Artists in South Africa,
and in 1999 also voted Lance James and Min Shaw, as the sixth most popular
Afrikaans duo of the Century. “Vicki” and “Dankie”
were chosen as two of the most popular S.A. songs ever.
Wellknown as "Big Daddy" Lance James on the Country Music
scene in South Africa, Lance has recorded and toured with “Queen
of Country”, Barbara Ray, with hits including "After the
Fire has Gone", “God made Love”, and “We’ll
Sing in the Sunshine”. Lance and Barbara released their latest
album called "Somewhere Between" in 2000. Lance has also toured
with “Mama Country” Sally Vaughn with hits including “My
Best Friend” and “Country Blues”.
He has also recorded and toured with Clive Bruce, Joanna Field, Sally
Vaughn and Billy Forrest as the group called "Over the Hillbillies
(five albums on the market).
Lance is currently touring with Bobby Angel and Barbara Ray as "Country
Greats". Lance has also recently recorded some songs with the “King
of Country” Bobby Angel, and these two were voted the Most popular
Duo in the Vaal Triangle in 2000.
Lance released "Lance James sing Dankie en ander Treffers”
in 1997, "Vriendskap" in 1998, "20 Gewildste Treffers"
in 1999, and "No Charge" in 2001. In 1998/99 various other
Lance James C.D.'s were re-issued plus "The Heart and Soul"
double album. Vrouekeur recorded the best “Country Performance”
on CD for the year 2002 was Lance James on the album "Sing a Lekker
Liedjie". In 2003, he also released “Till a Tear becomes
a Rose” with new singer Joey Lane. Lance can also be heard on
the “Back to Bapsfontein” CD which was released in September
2003, and “Toeka 2” by Steve Hofmeyr released early 2004.
Lance released "One Day At A Time" Golden Gospel Hits in February
2005.
