Talking of Nature is presented by John Hanks and is co-sponsored by the award winning magazine Africa Geographic. The program features interviews and comments on what is happening in the world of nature and what is being done to conserve the extraordinary celebration of biodiversity in Southern Africa in particular and Africa in general. There are regular features on the exciting travel destinations and expeditions which are being organized by Africa Geographic, as well as interviews and discussions with the people involved in the magazine’s leading stories

Born in London, UK.
Educated Paston School, Norfolk, and Magdalene College, Cambridge (M.A., Ph.D.)
Married with one son and one daughter
Experience
1965-1971: Biologist on contract to Kafue National Park and Luangwa National Park, Zambia. Research on large mammal population dynamics (elephants and waterbuck), and park management.
1972-1975: Course Organiser for M.Sc. in Tropical Resource Ecology, University of Rhodesia.
1975-1978: Chief Professional Officer, Natal Parks Board, South Africa.
1978-1985: University of Natal, initially as Professor and Head of Department, Biological Sciences, in Durban and from 1980 as the first Director of the Institute of Natural Resources in Pietermaritzburg.
1985-1990: WWF-International, Switzerland, initially as International Projects Manager and from 1989 as Director of the Africa Programme.
1990-1997: Chief Executive, WWF-South Africa.
Feb 1997 – July 2000: First Executive Director of the Peace Parks Foundation.
Oct 2000 – August 2004: Director of Conservation International’s TFCA Initiatives and Wilderness Program in Southern Africa.
September 2004: Joined the consulting team of International Conservation Services.
